By criticizing, I can potentially gain insight into how the criticized thinks, furthering or developing my existing opinions accordingly. I have clearly shown myself to have an opposing opinion, and by acting "rude" I can see how it operates "in action" and how it clashes with juxtaposing thought. If it fairs well, then I'll get both a stroke to my own ego for being objective in my own mind, and a further solidification of my beliefs, for have they (my beliefs) not proven themselves true?
