lifesucksthenyouacks really interesting blog that will definitely be updated really often

Went to lunch with the same group of people in my department to the same Chinese restaurant. It's an alright place, but I hope the next time we do our bimonthly lunches we go somewhere else for a change. One of the people there is taking a vacation to China, I think part of it is to see a friend of his who has a job there for some reason. The job itself is pretty shit from the way he's describing it, he works long hours 6 days a week for less pay than we do here, and Shanghai itself is a pretty expensive city. He's only planning to visit China and Hong Kong, no Japan ev&oe his stepdad is Japanese. I got a better fortune cookie, it was something along the lines of locking in and good things will happen. Maybe I'll use the numbers on the back to buy a lottery ticket tomorrow. My manager was showing this cauldron he set up in his yard for Halloween, it looked pretty good.

Had my monthly meeting with my manager. He encouraged me to be more aggressive when it comes to asking for more workload/stories. He told me about how the company essentially uses the story points as a shortcut for how many hours a person is doing actionable work rather than for the Agile approach of showing how much effort a task will take. All of the engineers in my company are a "cost center", in that they don't really make the company money and require funding from the company for their efforts, which needs to be justified and what not. So if I'm seen with less points, the company can just ask "why are we paying this noob money to do this when we can hire some H1Bs contractors to do the same thing". Not like they will, it'll look bad given that I'm an early talent analyst, but it's still something to look out for. I probably should've asked about trying to switch locations once this rotation is over, but eh.

Spent my Halloween doing not much of anything. I drew a hanging real womanjak of Tord to make fun of Trevor and post on SoyBooru. Then tonight I played Dead Space for a couple hours. I was planning to stay up until like 2AM playing it but honestly I've had one of those headaches today you get when you get shit or too much sleep so I think I'll just call it quits and go to bed a bit earlier. The game itself is pretty neat though, it reminds me a lot of Doom 3 with it's environments and the sort of exhausting atmosphere, that feeling that you very rarely feel completely safe. I think they call it attritive horror. I do think this game is more interesting than Doom 3, the enemies are more interesting, the narrative is more intriguing, and even the gunplay is more interesting with Issac's unorthodox weapons arsenal and the focus on dismemberment rather than aiming for headshots or the center of mass. Meanwhile all Doom 3 is really known for gameplay wise is the flashlight (which I don't mind tbh, and I think anyone who plays BFG Edition or any version that mounts the flashlight to your armor is playing it wrong) and having a shockingly awful shotgun. One thing about the game I don't like though is Issac being a mute character. It works in a game like Half-Life because for starters you're in first person. It's easier to immerse yourself in a character when all you can see are his arms and legs. Not so much when you're looking at him the entire game. Even then, he clearly seems like a person with his own personal motivations (he wants to see his girlfriend Nicole), he has some semblance of a personality with the grunts he does as he performs his curbstomp, he clearly has thoughts of his own as shown to the objective logs. It makes little sense for him to be mute.

Last year I went out with some people from work. They all told me they'd be in costume so I spent my day at work printing out an oversized 'plier and gluing it to some scrap cardboard laying around to create an impromptu mask. I'm not so sure how good of an idea this was doe as when I walked into the apartment where we were pregaming at nobody had a clue what the fuck I was and the closest I got to someone knowing what I was was this one foid who was like "He's like this meme online" or something along those lines. Anyways uh we were pregaming in this other foid's apartment (actually, the fiancee of the engagement party I attended last month) lounge, she brought out her dog dressed up as the big bad wolf while she was Little Red Riding Hood. Her boyfriend was there, as well as her eventual fiance (who was dressed up as Patrick Bateman from the Paul Allen scene but he was lowkey larping becuase he only watched the movie for the first time the day before). We stood around drinking beer and playing billiards mainly. Then around 11 we Ubered out to this street where most of the bars were. There was one bar we wanted to go to but the line was too long since these morons take too long to go out and also I had to go to bathroom because I'm a dummyed noob who couldn't handle my liquor although tbh some of us also had to go by this point but whatever. As we were in line some of the girls with us were so bored they were dead ass playing that Concentration hand game like we were fucking elementary schoolers. Anyways the bar we went to was kind of shit. Not a great crowd. Someone stole the beer I was drinking, the fiance was nice enough to buy me another. I later Venmo'd the money I owed him anyways because I don't like owing people shit. While we were ordering drinks some girl who was there started flirting with him and asking him shit like if he's ever been to Italy (he's Italian). Oh and fiancee here got her drink shitoko Sometime around when a couple of us were at this skill crane machine trying to get a prize. As for me I was too busy playing pinball to notice. But she described the experience at a dinner we all attended a couple weeks later and it was pretty bad, she was vomiting all night and shit. Pretty reluctant to visit the ER though. I wish I took the blogposting more seriously last year around this time. I actually had shit to write about unlike today.

In a week's time it'll be the 1-year anniversary of this edition of my blog. Not like there's much to celebrate as only now I've started to actively post on it a bit more but still, where does the time go. I honestly can't believe this year is almost over tbh
