my perspective on the isekai formula is that its moreso as a fantasy to escape the mundane into a life of excitement and fantasy. a lot of people live mundane lives seeking a thrill, and the nonfictional provides a outlet of expression.

obviously though in practice most isekais are jartycucked but the idea of going to a realm of fantasy isnt too far off from other concepts.
