Ah, I get what you mean. Finding "friend friends" is going to be harder. I was in a similar stage as you for many of my younger years before these past few, where it just seemed like the only folks I knew only kept me around to help them with work or answer questions about stuff I'm knowledgeable on. It seems like a group of friends that care for you in the manner you're speaking of only comes with the blessing of The Lord, there isn't much you can do except eventually find them naturally.
And, in addition, while I'm sure you're out of such a stage by now, don't "try out personalities" any further, as that'll only lead you to personal unhappiness. It sounds stupid, but you really just have to "find and be 'yourself'," and at the end of the day, some of it does still come down to appearance (that still doesn't mean you have to necessarily, physically look attractive. I look rather dull but I've stuck to my dullness and balanced it by focusing on dressing nicely, and I've found socializing to be a lot easier with the self-confidence something like that provides. I don't know how good of advice that is for you since you're, you know, a woman of a particularly consistent style of dress, but that's my own experience, anyway).
