In 2016 it was because Trump was seen as a joke and wouldn't win against Hillary Clinton. The VVin of 2016 caused immense seethe especially when he said outrategous keyed statement that made the left angry so they started coping so hard about the electoral college and what not. You could see them using every excuse in the book to try to remove him, which caused more people to defend Trump and which in turn caused more people to hate Trump

There's also the January 6th nothingburger shit happened that was deliberately exaggerated by the media which caused people on the left to label Trump as a "terrorist", and him being arrested with his mugshot being public. When he got elected again it was basically doomsday for the left since they constantly demonized and tried to discredit him yet he still won so they start blaming the voters and regular people. Trump's recent policies were so shit he somehow alienated even his own voter base
