There are alternatives to Youtube like Bitchute, Odyssey, whatever but they seem very very niche and Youtube is an extremely monolithic service that can't have a proper alternative because of how much decades of content is on it compared to its competitors. The only reason to use the other websites is when it's not available on Youtube. Since most videos are on Youtube only, you're essentially forced into using one of Google's service

Probably never because the long-form video service model is unfortunately becoming dated and brainrot short-form content is where it's at
In that way YouTube is facing its biggest competition from IG Reels and TikTok, and given how much of joke Shorts are treated as they're not really winning

It's very unlikely a successful YouTube alternative will ever come out and fully "take over" YouTube; if it ever come close, it'll probably do what Kick did and promise to pay already popular creators more than they were already by Google and ask them to join there site. Even then, it could backfire heavily if people reacted stubbornly and just stayed on YouTube despite their favourite creators being on another site.

Or it'll do what Kick and Bluesky did and just be an alternative, just as popular site for certain people that still wouldn't have the same influence and would most likely just have a shared user base anyway.

TL;DR: YouTube is like Twitter; it's a shitty social media site that's been around for a while, and everyone will most likely stay despite the people complaining about everything.

What if Elon buys it just like he bought Twitter?

I tolerated Youtube until the adblock shit. Nobody should be forced to see ads and then get shadowbanned by the weird AI moderation shit
