okay where do I start, first of all, let's get it out of the way "what do I buy"

It is impossible in the huge '25 to own vidya, in any shape or form it is genuinely impossible in any legal format, there are a myriad of groups that have caused this, but the main outlier is Steam, Steam is problematic for reasons I will outly in the next section, but basically, all I will say is, first of all, and most imporantly, move stores, Gog and Itch both allow you to own or download games without needing a launcher related to them, this is the perfect model, completely DRMless and within my control as the consumer and as owner. I mean think about it, why would you want to pay for something you don't own? And it's not like a temporary thing where it makes sense, but your given the illusion of permanent ownership when in reality the files are not controlled and are related to the master (steam or epic). There is no reason to waste money (buying would be an insult to people's intelligence if I described it like that), beyond matters like (oh le convenience), which first of all, piracy is on an idea level, more convenient, why would I want to download your launcher for your games? Why couldn't you just give me the files and I launch them manually or using my own launchers (Faugus, Lutris, etc...), would you not agree that is more convenient. The only method to own your games and consume in the genuine shitty industry is through piracy or hoping the providers release it on a downlaods page or through gog/itch (the only good game providers). Any chance that the masters of your files can just remove it or lock you out of your account if they please is not a good financial decision.

Steam as a whole is a shit company, they pioneered all the problems with the game industry, not to mention all of the new content is pure slop, Valve's success was due to modding, most of their actually good library comes from mods, the creativity modders have were chained up into DRM garbage when it should be free (in price) software, unlike good studios like id software which allowed modders to go wild unhindered along with releasing source code so true creativity can be made. Now let's get onto Steam Machine and hardware, ahem...

movies over video games anyday, vidya has not been good since 2015, there are a few gems, but 1, they are almost always bloated RAM-molesting proprietary shitware, and 2, there are already games that do the same thing but better. Video games will continue to be more and more bloated, and people will keep and keep buying because they are spineless fucking degenerates. Vidya promotes a shit medium that keeps big tech in power, I wholeheartedly believe there is some conspiracy between big gaming companies and gpu manufacturers, it makes so much sense why every game wastes as much RAM as possible, so the mutt in his shitty game cave after watching blacked.com videos soys out about le graphics, le cool gameplay that remind him of Jamal fucking his racist white wife to own le nazis, le musicerino that sound just like Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, when he already has 67 games already like that with 0.22% less ram consumption. The only games you need are the ones made before 2015 as they will last you a lifetime and every else is so fucking unneccessary it is not a debate or up to discussion in any sense of the word. Doom wads WQN btw if that matters.

you must own certain steam games to be able to play with multiplayer and i like having le useless achievements and whatnot
i can easily pirate anything i want but i choose to buy things like this because I'm not totally broke and want to play certain multiplayer games. i could agree with the fact licenses are scummy and it's sad how easy it is to lose said license but that kinda doesn't affect me, and i could've also bought DRM-free from GOG instead, but I'd rather just pirate my games at that point

i rarely play 3d games and prefer the simpler more casual stuff, i don't think games made after 2015 are necessarily bad. there's definitely more slop nowadays, but you just need to know what type of games you like.

spyware is such an overused term. i don't mind steam collecting my basic system info for their statistics. as usual you're allowed to delete your data and request it due to EU laws, though it seems to be one of the harder platforms to do so.
