/Christ/ - Christianity General

General thread
For the past 1-2 months my parents have been taking me to a Catholic church.
There's a part in the service that I think is called the "Sign of Peace" and you're supposed to hug someone or wave at someone or shake someone's hand but for whatever reason the catholics will kiss each other (on the mouth) in front of the whole church. Last Sunday there was two women that were sitting by us and they kissed each other on the mouth. I think that it's disgusting.
Is this out of the ordinary or improper for Catholics, because I don't think my opinion of them could get any worse after that.
papists are weird

I've never heard of that being a Roman Catholic practice, but it doesn't really surprise me, either. At the OCA church I've been going to (thus influenced greatly by the Russian tradition), the only "kissing" (it's functionally more like pecking, "kissing" can have an odd connotation to it) we do is to the feet and hands of icons or when receiving a blessing, where we kiss the feet of Christ on a cross the priest holds and then the back of the priest's hand. Lip kissing, though? Very odd.

No that's ordinary for Catholics.
It's one of the many carry-overs from Roman polytheism along with their liturgies, incense and (they believe) cannibalistic communion services.

I've heard about that before.
Then the thing I saw at the Catholic church could be something very improper and strange.
It's not just those two people, if there's a couple in the church then they will obnoxiously kiss eachother. My mom was complaining about it because she (and I) thought it was really gross.

The holy spirit was NOT present in any Catholic church or properties I've been near.
I can definitely tell.
my mom (In 2024 when she was still into the new-age things) only stayed in the orthodox church for an hour before she pulled us out because the people were apparently "looking at us strangely" [doctos]

A sad attempt at humor, Try better.
Some of the teens at my local church found it pretty funny when I said “How did this affect the Bible fandom?” when I went to the youth group to drop off some stuff when they were doing a lesson.

I think you’re just being a gloomy gus.
