I'm at a concert in a hockey stadium right now and it got me thinking about the Superdome's use during Hurricane Katrina for some reason. It's quite possibly the closest reality has ever gotten to a heckin' irl Fallout game, basically 30,000 people crammed into a football stadium for roughly a week.
There's a lot of good articles written about the subject but I'll try to summarize the most important stuff here: basically the power failed early on and the only electricity was for emergency lights. Plumbing failed as well, along with air conditioning. It was around 90°F inside there, no doubt made even worse by the swamp-like humidity. People eventually lost their shit; they pissed on floors, smeared shit all over the walls, drug use and theft were rampant. Six people died there. As the days progressed, food became scarce and the luxury suites/vending machines were looted. The National Guard had to covertly evacuate the disabled/sick to a building next door, because people would freak the fuck out otherwise.
After everything was over, it cost the city around $200 million to repair it, and a lot of people were convinced they'd demolish it instead.
