There may be some shroom subdomain running without cloudflare protection or alternatively misconfigured firewalls regarding ips, i'm basically just guessing at this point since i'm just a janny but there's that.

I really doubt the first one is the case and the last time I checked the firewall allowed only CF ips and a few VPN ips for the ssh. Honestly puzzled how it was ddosed yesterday but it's not my problem anymore.

What sort of firewall is it? If it's just a software firewall running on the server then it only protects you from L7 attacks since the server still has to process the packets to decide if they should be dropped or not.
