Two days ago as from 3/6/2026, Microsoft just announced that they are going to be writing a port of uutils (GNU coreutils but written in Rust) for Windows. This is for
GitHub - microsoft/coreutils: Coreutils for Windows: Installer & Packaging (https://github.com/microsoft/coreutils)
Coreutils for Windows overview (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/core-utils/overview)
Although I do believe Rust can be used correctly, I think it is irresponsible to replace battle-tested code with code of a language you like. Maybe GNU/Windows is coming soon, and I think it will be in a situation similar to SailfishOS but flipped. The userland is FOSS, while the underlying kernel is propietary.

Evendoe msys2 already exists and did that and works really well and has package support
Or wsl
