Sometime during the 19th century, Japanese farmers were completely and utterly poor to the point where they could make about three times more by moving to Peru and working large cash crop plantations than they could in japan, so they went with the prospect of working a few years to come back home rich. Reality was different though because it turns out that the return trip was extremely expensive and way beyond what they could afford, so in the end a lot stayed. It's a similar story to why there are so many Italians in south america.how did they end up there
