either way psychology and therapy will never work on people who actually need it. all people who i met who went to any type of mental health institution either came out worse or came out numb with all the meds they were given (also most of them ended up killing themselves).
and old's people "motivation" to people who have mental disorders or are struggling with mental health simply worsen it up since all they do is just say

my girlfriend goes to a psychologist since like 6 years ago and she still has an eating disorder, all they make her do is just take ssri's and play videogames. literally me going back together with her made her happier and more stable than what 6 years of psychology did.
