General thread
were heading over towards North Canton Ohio got some friends over that way we havent seen in a while, in over two months really. so figured it would be a good time to make the trip. probably stay a few days and visit with them and maybe look around the area some never been there before so should be interesting. theyve got nice breweries. how could you not with all the irish and germans around? lol
Sounds like a good trip, Terry. You and Debbie stay safe on the road and take your time getting there.

Man, I swear half the battle with working on these cars is just making sure you actually got the right damn part before you start tearing into it. I had the same thing happen last month; looked like the right piece in the box, but once I got underneath the car, nothing lined up.

That heat shield rattle will drive you nuts, though. Sounds like a bunch of loose silverware every time you hit a bump. Hopefully that bracket fixes it for good. What kind of car is it, Mark?
It’s my ’09 Silverado, Darryl. Nothing fancy, just an old workhorse that’s starting to let me know it ain’t getting any younger. The heat shield has been rattling for a while, mostly when I’m idling or taking off, and I finally got sick of listening to it.

I figured while I’ve got it apart I might as well replace the bracket and hardware instead of trying to cobble it back together again. Of course, that’s when I discovered the last part they sold me was wrong. Had the whole thing half torn apart before I caught it.

But other than that, the old Chevy’s been pretty good to me. Oil changes, brakes, tires, the usual stuff. I’m hoping to keep it going for a few more years before I have to bite the bullet and replace it.
Yeah, those old Silverados are pretty hard to kill if you stay on top of the maintenance. 😉 And I know exactly what you mean about fixing one thing and figuring, “Well, while I’m already in here…” Next thing you know, you’ve got half the truck apart and a pile of parts sitting on the garage floor.

Hopefully it’s just that heat shield and bracket and nothing more serious lurking underneath. And definitely check that new part against the old one before you start wrenching this time. I learned that lesson the expensive way. :ROFLMAO:
Yeah, check the damn part first. Saves a lot of cussing later. Hope that’s all it is, Mark. Those old Silverados are good trucks if you keep up with them. Keep that old workhorse going as long as you can.

Yeah, yeah, I heard you. I’ll check the damn part before I start taking the truck apart next time. Learned that lesson the hard way.

And if it makes any more noise than it already does, I’m just gonna tell everybody it’s got a new exhaust system. Cheaper than fixing it. 🫠 Appreciate it, Jim. Hopefully this is the last time I’m crawling under the damn thing for a while.

I talked to Chris on the phone a couple minutes ago. He knows he screwed up and said he won’t pull that shit again. We’ll see, I guess.

Hell, I figured you’d learn eventually. Just don’t come crying to me when that “new exhaust system” turns out to be another damn heat shield. Hopefully you’re done crawling around under that thing for a while. You’ve already paid your dues. 👍

Yeah, yeah, rub it in. You're probably right, though. If the damn thing stays quiet after this, I’ll consider it a victory. If not, I’m blaming the parts store and calling it preventive maintenance.
He's not drinking again, is he?
God, I hope not. It was fun when we were in our twenties, but the guy needs to get ahold of himself. He's gonna be 59 next year, if he makes it, that is.

Hey have you guys talked to Ed lately? Havent heard from him in a while and was wondering how hes doing
No, I haven't talked to Ted lately. Been a while since I heard from him too. If any of you get ahold of him, let me know how he's doing. The last time I saw him in person was about nine years ago? Doesn't he live in Saginaw now?
