I sometimes get ideas of games i'd like to make, but then i think always about all the other things it takes to make not just a game, but a good one aside from just programming and then always end up throwing the towel before even starting. Like, i got the coding down, that's not really an issue. Maybe sound design and music if we're being generous. But for gameplay and artistic design i honestly wouldn't even know where to start. I got some blender experience from working with the 3d printers they got at my campus, but i don't see myself as experienced in that regard beyond the basics.im building a game engine that is a pain in the ass to use but its MINE
You could make a game that is heavy on gameplay but with simplistic graphics, like dearf fortress.I sometimes get ideas of games i'd like to make, but then i think always about all the other things it takes to make not just a game, but a good one aside from just programming and then always end up throwing the towel before even starting. Honestly in our current day what i'm doing is stupid as hell. Fuck, im doing it as a hobby. I have a problem with project hopping, and this helps me stay on a project and develop it and let it mature into something i can be proud of. I know how to compose music, i can draw, i can model, i can code, but i'm lazy as hell. I get what you mean, even the game i initially start development of this engine for is basic in it's gameplay design, a copycat of LSD Dream Emulator.I sometimes get ideas of games i'd like to make, but then i think always about all the other things it takes to make not just a game, but a good one aside from just programming and then always end up throwing the towel before even starting. Getting an idea for making a game misleads you, i always get ideas of a finished product or at least a cool demo. Then i realise the hours and work i have to put in to achieve that. So i just dont.Honestly in our current day what i'm doing is stupid as hell. Fuck, im doing it as a hobby. I like dwarf fortress as a game and the approach it takes, but by itself it already fills a niche that is honestly quite small. A dwarf fortress like is also the kind of game you genuinely have to devote your life towards continuously developing since the lack of style is expected to be counteracted with a noobload of features. You could make a game that is heavy on gameplay but with simplistic graphics, like dearf fortress.

Yes, its primitive and as i said a pain in the ass to use and develop. It doesnt have any fancy features. You made a 3D engine?
I like to call it Ringo's curse sometimes. I'll get several ideas and snippets of how I would like an hypothetical game to look like and it's game loop, but I can never actually bundle the ideas together and much less plan for the execution. It's a much different landscape than normal software development since you almost have to think in several dimensions.Getting an idea for making a game misleads you, i always get ideas of a finished product or at least a cool demo. I agree, games are way harder to actually develop, if you wanted to create a browser, you know what you need to do to achieve that. Creating a game that is up to your own standards all by yourself though... Anyone can make an asset-flip or a slowburn jumpscare free A24 walking simulator. Not everyone can put their ideas together to create an ACTUAL gameI like to call it Ringo's curse sometimes.
