You know the more think about it, the more i think that it's probably the most autistic hobby i've ever seen, literal heated debates over which version of a game of playing pretend with rules is better, over which bits of ways to roll dices and calculate the numbers is better, and arguing over which versions of a setting is better ev&oe they can just tweak the shit they personally don't like in the setting.

Definitely autistic, but not the absolute most. Heated debates come a lot from the sheer variety in the ways people play tabletop not always aligning with everyone else, and some people being pissbabies, but this is universal across all genres—there's nothing overly unique about this in tabletop other than its low barrier to creation typically giving its players delusions about being able to "control" the game. There's always that one cacaot that wants the goals moved.

Yes to the former because they're how I cope with the fact that I will never be a cyborg ninja in real life but no to the latter because fundamentally it's just playing a game with your friends, people who care only about their own fun are inherently a mismatch and game ruiners if not reined in.
