October 30th, 2026: The gala today, I woke up and had cereal for breakfast while my mean cat was bugging me for milk. I got back upstairs and got dressed up and also packed for heading to the apartment, I drove to the post office for the passport renewal where I filled out some forms and then had my picture taken. We drove back and I had the other half of my reuben sandwich for lunch and the coleslaw that came with. I took more pictures of my nice cat:

My mom taught me how to iron dress shirts and pants, telling me that she remembers her mom would watch television while ironing I got everything in the Volkswagen and then I had my mom insist on shining my shoes before I left at 3:05pm, I drove about halfway there when I got a call from my dad at 3:56pm congratulating me on getting his car for now and I told him a bit about the gala, the call lasted roughly 11 minutes. I got to the veteran building at 4:30pm and saw all the people there. I got on Twitter and noticed a message from an account saying:

<I had a feeling I knew you in real life. You're Gemerson. [link to my tweet]
It was Warner’s Twitter account, he even showed me a tweet of his that had me in it, from the time when we went to a Brewers game and we tailgated beforehand. I walked around the park before entering the gala at 5:00pm, I checked in and got a brochure with my name on it and a number (136) and went to my table then to the bar. I ordered a coke and amaretto with the free drink ticket I got, I got ID’d but I’m 23 so it’s no biggie, the second person to arrive was the Kenoshan and he talked a bit with another person about not going to the TLM in Kenosha, Wisconsin because it’s at 12:00pm. I spotted this cute woman running a raffle for Christmas tree ornaments, I talked with her a bit and she’s from Chicago, Illinois but she’s been to the Sacred Heart Retreat Center and when Adam II and his fiancée came in, Adam II said hi to the volunteer. The volunteer told me she is a cradle Catholic versus me being a revert, she mentioned an “orthodox bishop” that she said was dating herself by bringing him up because she thought he was relevant to me. I thought it was a Byzantine Catholic priest, but nope. It’s bishop Robert Charles Morlino who died in 2018 =(. She meant orthodox as in theologically sound, not Eastern Orthodox. I went back to talk with more people here like Loid, Yor who came with a date at a separate table, we went over the items in the silent auction and saw this one art sewn by a member of the Z family ubiquitous to the county I live in. The collection of 10 wine bottles I was interested in yet we had to do a silent auction for it. We got started with the salads and I loved the raspberry vinaigrette they had. We learned about the history of the Sacred Heart Retreat center, being that the mortgage was $2,000,000 (already paid off) it’s start in September 2025 for hosting retreats, and they’re doing a fundraiser where if you give $50,000 over the course of a lifetime, you can get a painting of a saint in a dedicated retreat room. Bonaventure told a story of him mentioning a walnut allergy that made the abbot enthusiastic to stab someone, even if it was with an epi-pen. I informed Adam II he was outbid for the wine collection and he thanked me. Our dinner was roasted salmon with capers and a lemon, mashed potatoes, and broccoli. I got another drink, this time a cabernet red wine, and then bidding started. Our table agreed for the bidding that we’d focus for the live auction on the large group items like cajun dinner for 12 at the retreat center. Loid offered to do the bidding for the live auction and it was instantly ruined by all the items starting at $1,000 and going up in increments of $500, including an opportunity for dinner not listed in the page for dinner at our church with our older French priest. It sold for above $3,000. Nobody at our table won anything but Adam II got a deal stuck for the silent auction wine collection that he could get a bottle from another guy if he stopped bidding. I also overheard that last year, Yor won a bag for her niece. I knew Loid and Yor had at least one more sibling but nothing about Yor being an aunt. I left at 8:30pm to drive home and shook the hands of all the people at my table, I went a long way and arrived home at 9:30pm finding a decent place to park and take stuff in. On my first trip back I drove the car closer to my apartment and then got the ironing board in and the smoking skeleton chair from Helga:

Waleran was content with it. I started day 40 of my 40 day rosary for life at 10:17pm in the shower and completed the final Glorious mystery at 10:39pm, I watched the new episode of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure with the start of the Tusk arc, fun fact: Pork Pie Hat Kid (villain of the arc) does not wear a pork pie hat, I looked those up. I then dozed off.

Good to see you had a good time, also that dinner sounds way better than the food they usually serve at these fancy gatherings, or at least the ones I've attended
I had to pay my friend $120 for my share in the table.
Why are you still in touch with her, I read your earlier blogposts about her and she seemed to be very inconsiderate
She replied back to my Snapchat stories about me working at the baseball stadium, also her snap score is above 1,000,000.
plus she has a BMI of 39 in an Ozempic world
Nothing wrong with being plus sized though.

Fair at least you got your moneys worth

It’s too @Yurijak pilled…
In all seriousness I could probably tolerate any BMI sub 30 but nearly morbidly obese is beyond my limit. Not that it matters since I have no experience in general anyway

Yeah.

Rude, I hardly have a social life as it mostly consists of me going to events instead of hanging out with friends.
It’s too @Yurijak pilled…
What did he do?

I've been with girls whose BMI was higher than that.

October 31st, 2026: Halloween. I woke up and got on the computer, the leg for my bed was knocked out of place so I slept a bit weird. I wanted to test out my car so I planned to go shopping. I had 3 fried eggs for breakfast due to no cereal or coffee, brushed my teeth, then got on the computer to game, I noticed that Titania added me back on Instagram so I asked her at 8:30am:
>Why’d you suddenly add me back.
And she replied to me, starting the conversation:
<i deactivated everything
<but i’m back

>I thought you blocked me…
<no!
<sorry about that. a lot has happened

>Care to talk about it?
<i can’t legally get into it yet but i will when i can

>Legally!?
>🫣

<yeaaaaaah lol i didn’t get in trouble or anything it was a domestic thing
<but i’m okay

>Bad ex?

<no. my dad
>Oh…
>I’m so sorry to hear that.

<thank you. everything is okay now we made amends

>I’m glad to hear now.
She and I talked a bit more at 12:00pm with her wanting to hang out with me again. I departed for the wine store wearing my white button-up and black dress pants. I jokingly asked what I should get her and she said Tequila, I drove there and parked in the parking lot. I walked in and tried to sneak up on fAsherah but failed. She was dressed kinda like Morticia Addams but without black hair or makeup, she loved this outfit and directed me to this plum wine she wanted me to try out. I also got some Tequila and then drove over to Target around the mall, I saw plenty of people trick or treating and all dressed up in costumes like Shrek, Spider-man, Rumi from K-Pop Demon Hunters, and all other stuff. I got to Target and went in to buy stuff, it was a bit overpriced and I got a good amount of stuff including this Tony’s Chocolate bar, I ate a bit of it and then drove home to get back at 2:00pm. I heard:
“Gemerson!”
Shouted at me and turned across the street to see it was Nikki’s central Tennessee roommate, I said hi to her. I transported half of the stuff inside when I accidentally left my keys in the apartment hallway and I was stuck, I waited 20 minutes before calling the apartment and they told me that to come in and unlock it for me, it would cost $60. I hung up on them and waited until one person came out and let me in, I thanked him and then brought all my groceries inside. I got dressed up for going to the procession and decided to take the bus instead of driving, I got on it and then arrived at 4:40pm to see Bonaventure assisting with the procession and handing out candles with wax-catchers with prayers written in English, Polish, and German. We prayed through multiple psalms while Salignac and Cognac were taking photographs which kinda ruined things, but they did take a few photos where I might have been the focal point. I spotted Table #3 After an hour I went out of my packed church and started noticing more people here. I got out and the many of us (the church was practically full) were lined up and were told to move down. I ended up by Vytautas and said hi to him while having my candle blown out by the wind twice. I ended up lighting this fat old guy’s candle who in turn lit another person’s candle who I saw used it to light another person’s candle. I spotted Jaime and went over to her group and noticed this tall woman with an inherently trashy hairstyle (slickback) who I’ve seen a few times before. A bit later, Cliffe came over to me and handed me these pamphlets from St. Paul Street Evangelization about praying to the saints saying:
“If you could hand these out to people we walk by that would be great!”
I had some also in Spanish and then we walked down, I spotted Table #3 talking with the roommate from central Tennessee during the procession. I spotted Catejean and asked him if he was evangelizing and he said he wasn’t. I ended up giving all my pamphlets to this friend of Cliffe’s while they were talking to a Black family who happened to live nearby. I continued walking and during it, Bonaventure came over to me and asked me to hold a second unlit candle while he goes around to relight more candles, I hold it for a few minutes and then he came back to take it. We arrived for the speech by the archbishop and I sat down near the Kenoshan and another person. The speech was quite short and I was informed of a social event afterwards. I walked over to Bonaventure while he was talking with Salignac and Cognac and I think I scared those two away, but Bonaventure told me the place is a short walk there. I got in and was relatively early for their dinner, which was mac and cheese, salad, and a cookie. I decided to sit down at an empty spot where lots of people could see me. I spotted other people like Yor and her date, Loid, and many people all sitting together. Jaime put her stuff down to sit near me but a family took it up so they moved to another table. I ate and then left quickly to take two buses back home at 8:20pm. My sister said that she went as a traffic light while her boyfriend Onyx II dressed up as a crossing guard. I paid for rent and then took my shower, and then communicated on Snapchat with Dollar Store Asuka about her meowing in a Snapchat and I told her to meow at the host’s cat, but she’s at a bar. Her former friend Titania also got drunk but didn’t communicate with me much. I then went to sleep instead of being at a party.

November 1st, 2026: All Saints Day. I woke up and had 3 fried eggs for breakfast and then brushed my teeth before getting some coffee to go with. I got dressed up fancy wearing my grey blazer with my white button-up and my green pelican tie before deciding to drive to church for the first time. I left at 9:00pm and arrived by 9:18pm, finding some good parking a block away and then walking in to get into the prayer line, I saw the older French priest giving a blessing to Adam II and his fiancée while waiting in the long confession line. Pollux was here wearing his usual long sleeved dark green shirt and he got in line a few spots behind me. Just before I got in to confess my sins. The priest went out to do something, I had to stand to the side for the procession of the priests to the altar. I spotted Horseradish and waved at him, I finally confessed my sins and then ended up in the back behind the last pew. Liseuxa came in behind me and waved to me before finding a spot in the pews. There was two homilies somehow, the one by the older French priest was more about it being All Saints Day while the one by Father Ironside was more about the history behind the famous Trick-or-treat tradition where people would go around asking for the names of the recently deceased to pray for or they play a harmless prank (the trick) and it starting in Ireland (Catholic nation) and Scotland (Presbyterian part of the UK) being brought over by immigrants in the 19th century, but the Puritans in America got a little angry. Communion took a long time and I noticed Kong was now in the back pew. I prayed for a while and then went over to the cafeteria for the donut social and held the door open for a while, welcoming plenty of people in including Yor and her boyfriend, Bonaventure, and the Kenoshan. Eventually a church lady brought over a full cardboard box so I wouldn’t have to hold it open for a long time. I got in and had 2 donuts plus coffee and then sat down to eat them, I noticed there was a different line for actual lunch so I got in that and it had things I loved like peppered salami, prosciutto, tiny pickles, a ham sandwich, and some pasta salad. I went back to eat and then saw all the kids go up dressed as saints, there were plenty and I remember some including: Saint George, Saint Ambrose (my confirmation saint), Saint Michael (my baptismal saint), Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, Saint Longinus, Saint Patrick, Saint Mary, Saint Maximillian Kolbe, Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati, and some others I didn’t know. I ate my lunch and then left but as I was talking with Bonaventure, he told me that he’d be going to this cemetery later today to pray for the souls of the dead. I went to my car and at 12:07pm I started this conversation with Warner:
>Why didn’t you come to [my church].

>And join the saint costume procession.
>Abscond’s thing got canceled.

<Next year I will
<[picture of Warner dressed as St Maximillian Kolbe]
<Or I'll have Fr. Martin dress me again like earlier this year lol

>Not Fr. James Martin

<Yeah I saw. She texted me about what happened yesterday
<The new Polish priest at the Basilica

>Wait what happened?
>Too low turnout?

<She gave CPR on someone and saved her life yesterday and just wasn't in the right state of mind to host
>I thought it was something else, I DM’d her asking for the address and she never opened it.
>I assumed a more hostile intent.

<Got it. No, not hostile at all. It was rescheduled for 2 weeks from today
I was still a bit paranoid that Warner told Abscond that I assumed hostile intent towards her but she was nice enough to listen. I drove home and then gamed for a long time. I messaged Bonaventure asking about when the graveyard rosary prayer would be and I didn’t get anything. I talked with Titania about hanging out later tonight and she just told me that she can’t due to being sick, later she said she had to go to the emergency room for alcohol poisoning and dehydration yesterday. I eventually got a message from Bonaventure at 3:14pm:

<Check the chat
He said he was praying at Holy Apostles cemetery in New Berlin, Wisconsin at 3:45pm and arrived at roughly 4:15pm, turns out the usb port to those round phone outlets wasn’t working in my car so my phone had a very low battery percentage. I got out and Bonaventure told me I was the only one to show up and he was just done praying his rosary but he said that everyone here was a soul who went through life, talking about memento mori and how we all die one day. I started praying the sorrowful mysteries at 4:28pm and each bead was for the intention of one person buried here, living from May 13th, 1933 to May 6th, 2021, Catherine C. Gumieny (née Kohler) was the most recent death I found for all the graves I prayed at. I completed the rosary at 4:50pm and then walked around a bit more, brushing off a few graves to clean the grass clippings and decaying leaves so the text would be visible, I drove home and then had ramen for dinner, I took a shower, and then went to sleep.

November 2nd, 2026: All Souls Day, I woke up early and then got dressed up a bit fancy for my date at 11:00am. I went to the convenience store to buy rice krispies and then walked back home to have breakfast, I had coffee and then brushed my teeth. I played some All The Mods 11 for a while until it was 10:00am when I started driving down to Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin for the date. I arrived at her apartment at 10:45am and called her that I was parked outside, she came out wearing a black long skirt, a black jean jacket, and a black top which exposed a lot of her cleavage, as she was a pretty fat girl and also short (5’3”), we hugged and got in my car to drive down to Sooshibay in Kenosha, Wisconsin for our date, she was very excited and nervous to be on the date, We got in just after it’s opening time of 11:00am. We got a booth and I told her how to do this, taking different colored plates off the conveyor belt and then eating them. She had to take her giant blue nose ring out to eat, which she says she can fit a glowstick through, she only got 2 plates where I got 3 and she didn’t even use soy sauce for her sushi. I went to the bathroom at 11:22am and spotted this toilet paper handing on the bathroom stall door:
1793772366999.jpeg
I took it off and then got back. I thought the bill would be much higher but it was only $22 for the whole thing, so I threw it in the toilet. We then got back to the car and kissed and she suggested that we drive to this park nearby on the campus grounds of UW-Parkside in that large parking lot. We walked and talked, finding more about her, how her previous roommate got her hooked on vaping, her dislike of Monster Energy due to how RedBull has smaller sizes and thus the ideal amout of caffeine for her, her sadness when they discontinued some flavors, her love of “Miami mint” flavored vapes, her obsession with the Resident Evil franchise and how she has a spreadsheet of all the games she’s completed to 100% except Resident Evil 7 due to this DLC which is irritating to complete on hardcore difficulty, her living with her sister who always has her boyfriend over, her tattoos, and I kissed her a few times during the walk. We turned around at 12:20pm and walked back along the stream as she had to be home by 1:00pm so she could get to work at 2:00pm. We drove back and then we cuddled a bit in my car in her parking lot with her head on my chest, she said she liked brunettes and at 1:00pm we hugged goodbye and I drove back to my city. I stopped at St. Adalbert’s cemetery to pray for the dead. I started at 1:42pm I took note of all the graves and saw one with a very unique last name: Richard Dziondziakowski (June 26th, 1946 to present) and Alice Dziondziakowski (née Cole, October 15th, 1946 - July 2nd, 2014) and the most recent dead person I prayed for was Alina Sedlak (née Białobrzeski, February 9th, 1932 - August 28th, 2026) I finished praying my rosary at 2:02pm and then drove home. I wrote more and got dressed more, wearing my Billy London blazer, a red striped button-up, and a purple tie. I took the bus down to the church and walked over to it, getting in to see the usual small amount of people there at 5:40pm, but the new priest had gone into the confessionals on the left instead of the right, I had Table 7# come into the confessional line and said to me:
“Hi Gemerson.”
I almost didn’t recognize her but she dressed a lot like a woman from the 1940s in the winter. I confessed my sins and then said some prayers for gaining plenary (I don’t know what that means) indulgences. Lots of people were in two lines for confession at both the left and right confessional, I spotted Salignac and her sister, Bonaventure, Zhao, French Paul and his wife, Yor, Adam II and his fiancée, Karelusa, Kong, and the place was packed for a first Monday, I even saw Clyde there. In front of gates to the sanctuary was this coffin which obviously wasn’t filled but was draped with a black cloth that had the same design as you’d expect of a chasuble, as for the chastibule of the 3 priests for the mass, they were extremely ornate and included lots of purple on them, so my tie did fit. I’m pretty sure the mass lasted more than an hour as my missal had listed 3 masses for All Souls Day. When the 3 priests went out to the coffin I thought they would be starting the second mass but nope. It was just something they did while exiting. At this point I spotted Abscond here sitting next to Table #7. I held the door open for people to come outside and did for a while until Liseuxa came and said she was late due to her job. I brought chairs from the dining room into the living room so we could start the talk and I overheard Abscond talking about how she has more gender neutral outfits because she isn’t taken seriously as a woman in STEM (leave the feminism at the synagogue) Although we first went into the kitchen to get dinner. It was women and newcomers first. I got a slice of pizza and a taco but got some of the sauce they had and Karelusa pointed out I got some sauce on my tie so I went to the sink to wash it off. I spotted Table #7 and Kong talking. Later Abscond said that her “tall friend” had left her, I said I’m tall and I didn’t leave her, I asked how tall Table #7 is and she said:
“Six foot”
I grabbed an old fashioned and walked to the living room to see Liseuxa sitting next to Abscond and French Paul’s wife then Salignac, who sat in the chair directly in front of me (I was in a side chair). I started the recording:
“He is a member of our choir here at [church]. He is also a PhD student at [rich kid’s university]. And he told me, just before we started, his favorite color is red, and he likes short walks on the beach. Tonight, he'll be giving a talk on…” - Bonaventure
“The soul.” - French Paul
“The soul, yes.” - Bonaventure
“No pressure.” - Table #7
“My favorite” - Zhao
“I talk too much as it is, let's hear him talk. Woo!” - Bonaventure
“Evening, let’s talk about the soul.” - French Paul
“What a beautiful haircut.” - Karelusa
[Laughter]
“Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be. One God at a time. St. Thomas Aquinas. Pray for us. St. Therese of Lisieux. Pray for us. Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 363. In sacred scripture, the term soul often refers to human life, or the entire human person. But soul also refers to the innermost aspects of man, that which is of greatest value in him. And by which he is most especially in God's image. Soul signifies the spiritual principle in man. Now, this is the start of the first section of the Catechism on the Soul. So it doesn't tell us too much of substance, but it gives us outlines. I'm thinking back to before I started studying philosophy and theology on the side. And people talked to me about the soul. And I'm willing to bet most of you are going to follow me on this. When we mention the soul in popular discourse, the visual, immediately, is the transparent blue version of yourself. Right? That's the soul. There's a second visual that accompanies it very quickly, and it's that transparent version of yourself floating away when you die. So there's this intuition right away in all of us, that whatever the soul is, one, it involves something other than the body, two, it has to do with death at some point. What I'm going to try to do today, tonight, is provide a brief philosophical commentary on some selected questions that arise from those visions of the soul, those ideas of the soul, and the specifications that we have in Paragraph 3 already. So recall, from the Catechism, soul is said to refer to the entire person, and, or, it's not clear whether it's and or or, what they call the innermost, most valuable, most divine aspect of man, and then they eventually summarize it as the spiritual principle. Of the numerous philosophical problems and questions we can get from that statement, here are some. First, do you say that the soul is the entire person, Church? Does that mean that the person is the soul? Does that mean that the soul is exhaustively constitutive of the person? Is there anything else to the person than the soul? It's a perfectly valid question to ask. Are we saying instead, something softer but similar, the soul is most truly the person? It's not that the person is just the soul, it's that when you dig into it, bottom line, person equals soul, mostly. And like, there's a little bit of extra dressing on the side. About the spiritual principle. First, what the hell does the word spiritual mean? That's never really been clear to me. But if it's the most valuable part of the person, if it's the principle of spirit, and by the way, principle in philosophy and theology can loosely be translated to starting point. When you hear principle, think that. And then think of all the attendant images and concepts that go with being a starting point, being the first cause, being in charge of, being the beginning, being the source. So everything that is spiritual about the person comes from the soul. But, could we then risk suggesting that the soul is what makes something a person? Such that if you don't have a soul, you're not a person? We could wonder. We could wonder what the relationship is between soul and personhood. Are there any persons that don't have souls? Quick yes or no.” - Bonaventure
[POST SPLIT IN MULTIPLE PARTS DUE TO CHARACTER LIMIT]

November 2nd, 2026 (Continued): “Gingers.” - Karelusa
[Laughter]
“Angels.” - Table #7
“That's one of them, but that's a category.” - Bonaventure
“People will disagree with me online.” - Me
[Laughter, even from Salignac somehow.]
“Okay, those guys also suck. Maybe co-extensive, they might all be gingers.” - French Paul
“Angels?” - person
“Yes, there we go, angels are in fact persons.” - French Paul
“Animals.” - Liseuxa
“Sorry?” - French Paul
“Animals.” - Liseuxa
“Animals are not persons.” - French Paul
“No, they don't have souls.” - Liseuxa
“Correct, but I'm thinking persons that don't have souls.” - French Paul
“A person is somehow spiritual?” - Liseuxa
“I can give you a definition of a person. A person is a member of a rational species. Where in that definition is soul? So we're not going with substance, material, living, or anything around the word? How do they count on the census? So how is an animal not a soul with that definition in mind? How are humans souls by that definition? So you see how quickly if we're not careful, questions are going to proliferate. We've got to make sure we keep our distinctions up. Slow down. Usually, and in my opinion, the best way to approach these debates and genuinely interesting questions is to do a historical survey. Now, I only have so much time. I have to skip a bunch of important steps. I've tried to whittle it down to the ones I think are most important. What I'm about to do is narrow down the questions I just listed and place them under the shitoko of mostly teleological questions. What does the soul have to do with human fulfillment? Because in order for us to fully understand that question, we have to comment on what is the human, what is the human ordered towards, what gives the human that order, and then what enables that ordering to reach its goal, to be fulfilled in the first place. So what I'm going to do is spend some time on Socrates, a little more time on Plato, the most time on Aristotle, a brief comment on Plotinus, and then I'm going to tie that together and give you a systematic but brief overview of how the church, divine revealed truth, and the person of Christ takes everything that the pagans have given us and purifies it and corrects it to give us the true doctrine on human happiness. Let's begin with Socrates. Now, in separating Socrates and Plato, I'm kind of cheating because we don't have Socrates without Plato. As several of you, I hope, know, Socrates never wrote anything down, and Plato was one of his closest and brightest students, and we only have records of Socratic dialogues from the pen of Plato. So most of the time when we talk about Socrates, we're talking about Plato's Socrates. It's hard to be sure exactly what Socrates believes that Plato doesn't. It's hard to be sure what Socrates says that Plato doesn't make him say in The Dialogues. But there are at least two, I mean at least here, at least two dialogues in which we're pretty sure Socrates is speaking in his own person. Those are the Phaedo and The Apology. The Apology is possibly the foundational text of Western philosophy because you can read it as a defense of philosophy itself against the worldly pursuit of power, victory, and fame. In that dialogue, Socrates presents his vision of what the ultimate good is for the human person. According to him, the highest good of the human person is the health of the soul, the well-being of the soul, and he's got a pretty straightforward argument for why that's the case. But that argument, straightforward though it is, depends on a lot of presuppositions, most of which we share with him, so that's a win for us. If it is true that the soul is immortal, which Plato has to establish in several other dialogues, more or less successfully, if the soul is immortal, make sure we understand what that means, if upon bodily death the soul as it is persists, unchanged, if that's the case, and if nothing else about us is immortal, then it follows directly that any good we pursue that is not the soul will be lost upon death. So that's not to say that they're totally useless and worthless, they're still good. But what really matters is whether or not our soul is in a good state, because once death occurs, according to Socrates in The Apology, one of two things can be the case. Either we enter a sort of state of dreamless sleep, which is tantamount to annihilation, so nothing really matters, or the soul persists and moves on to the isles of the blessed, where the true judges who can peer into the constitution of your soul, into its desires, into its thoughts, into its moral quality, are going to be able to tell you this is what you truly deserve, because this is what you have loved, this is what you have valued. So if your soul is doing well, that judgment is going to go well for you. If your soul is doing poorly, that judgment is going to suck. Therefore, the highest good for the human person is well-being of the soul. In the Phaedo, he's got a bunch of arguments by which he attempts to establish that the soul is immortal. I'll mention only one of them, the argument from opposite principles, according to the Socratic-ish, Platonic-ish theory of forms. There are several forms which make up pairs of opposites, hot and cold, life and death. I'll use those two examples. Wherever one opposite is fully present, the other cannot enter. And if somehow the other does, the other opposite is not annihilated, it just leaves. So if cold approaches hot, hot is not annihilated, it just departs. You see what he's about to do for the soul? Because now he's going to give us sort of a proto-Aristotelian definition of soul. If the soul is that by which we have life, if it's the principle of life, then when death approaches, the soul isn't destroyed, it flees. But if it's not destroyed, that means it persists, therefore it's immortal. Kind of a sketchy argument if you really dig into it, but it's super cool as far as vibes are concerned, right? And we're working off of vibes here. That is what Socrates has to say about the soul. How do you achieve that purification? What does he say is the means whereby you obtain this highest good?...”
