Why do all online shooters suck now?

The only "good" shooter that has an active playerbase these days is TF2, I've tried playing the FOTM slop that my normgroid friends recommend but it just never clicks with me
The genre seems to have completely died off in the 2020s after ruling the roost in the 2010's, what killed them off and why is it that FPS games seem to have zero interest in gunplay/movement and just solely focus on dummyed gimmicks now?

You have no idea how much I want KF3 to be good but KF2 was such a wet fart I don't really have faith in them
