A body has been found in the search for the missing tramper Connor Purvis, who went missing after intending to climb Mount Huxley in late December.
Teams searching for Purvis, 20, located the body on the southern side of Mount Huxley around 9am on Wednesday.
The body is believed to be the missing man, but formal identification is yet to take place, police said on Wednesday afternoon.
“This was hard work, in a remote, rugged and high-risk environment,” said Otago Coastal search and rescue coordinator sergeant Matt Sheat.
Sheat thanked the local volunteers and rescue teams involved in the search for Purvis, saying it had been a “true team effort”.
“It’s been a long, tough week for all involved,” he said.
“Police are grateful to Connor’s friends and family for their input and assistance with the search. Our thoughts and sympathies go out to them during this difficult time.”
