/Christ/ - Christianity General

General thread
Why do people online post pictures of anime women wearing crosses and stuff like that? It makes me repulsed and sad more than anything else, I wouldn't really call myself a Christian anymore (because frankly I've gone too far off the deep end in fuckups to redeem myself) but still, it's honestly a worse form of of desecration than most imageboard memes when it's not trying to be.
You're the only person I've ever seen do that.

Is there any way to draw closer to God without going through churches? I don't trust churches; they're all a bunch of liars who take advantage of the faithful.
I haven't gone to "church" in years.

Christians don't need priests, we don't need temples and the early church didn't even have a designated building to meet in.
A believer is never out of the real Church.

I've been saying this for some good time
Especially because a centralised (atleast not centralised under God directly) Christianity risks contamination and corruption

I understand why you feel that way. Sadly, a lot of people in the Church (including clergy) can fail badly, something which can destroy trust. The Church has never claimed to be a gathering of perfect people, but a hospital for sinners, a place where broken people come for healing.
God isn’t confined to buildings or institutions. You can pray anywhere, read the Scriptures, repent, and struggle to live a life of love, and God truly meets people there. Many people first turn toward God outside church walls, especially when they’ve been hurt.
At the same time, from an Orthodox perspective, faith is not only private. Christ didn’t leave us just ideas, but His Body. The Church exists not because its members are trustworthy, but because Christ is. The grace of the sacraments does not depend on the holiness of priests.
So yes, someone can begin drawing closer to God without going to church. But Orthodoxy would say that the fullness of life in Christ is ultimately communal and sacramental, even though that community is made up of very flawed people.

I wanted to go to an Orthodox church (since I was more interested in Orthodoxy than Catholicism), but unfortunately the city where I live doesn't have any Orthodox churches. There is only one Catholic church and a few Evangelical and Protestant churches. When I was little, I used to go to an evangelical church with my friend; the atmosphere was welcoming. It's a shame that after I moved, I started going to the evangelical church less often. <---- SNCA

well that's only because Christianity used to be an illegal religion and believers had to gather in secret
Scripture still commands believers to gather together in prayer, and constantly talks about what we know today as the Church (Acts 2:42–47, 1 Timothy 3:14–15, Colossians 1:17–20, Romans 12:4–5)
I honestly think that saying that we don't need Priests or the Chirch is pure ignorance since the Church was never meant to be a dwelling of perfect people anyway
