I genuinely don't understand the hype around Villeneuve. Maybe he did good with Sicario (don't know because I haven't seen it) but be butchered dune in my opinion, especially the harkonnens.
As crazy as the Lynch version was, at least the primary villains were more book accurate.

I cannot believe Christopher Nolan is directing the upcoming adaptation of The Odyssey.
He's literally the worst possible pick for writer and director. Whichever producers who selected him for the project should be shot and never allowed to make studio level decisions again.
The damage this will do to Homer's story will be irreparable.

The first stupid thing in the Odyssey was the theme of society breaking down.
That's completely irrelevant in the poem and there's nothing that even implies that was happening.
noob read "The Road" and thought "yeah I'll just shoehorn the thematic backbone of this into a completely different story".
And because Nolan and his brother are terrible writers, they convey the theme with lines like
>wow, society is really breaking down huh guys? You could say we're in some type of... COLLAPSE! .
Second stupid thing is making Odysseus the villain and frame using the horse as a bad thing.
This is entirely a Roman (wrong) perspective of the Odyssey.
They decided that Achilles and Agamemnon were the heroes and Oddyseus was "dishonourable" whereas in the original poem, Achilles is depicted as a fool who throw his life away for hype moments and aura while Agamemnon is killed because he's a prideful showman.
Oddyseus is the hero because he actually did what had to be done to destroy Troy and stop the madness.
Odysseus wasn't even in favour of the war, he was only there because of Mycenaean NATO's article 4.
Third stupid thing was replacing the Laestregonians with Polyphemus and inserting his OC and calling them Laestregonians.
The poem is not redundant for including two separate entities that eat the crew, Polyphemus is a completely different threat from the Laestregonians.
In the movie they removed all his dialogue and just made him a savage beast like the bear from the revenant.
In the poem Polyphemus is actually very smart and only starts eating them after deducing who they are and realizes they can't stop him.
Also by removing Poseidon's curse from the story it just makes Oddyseus look like an idiot.

The fourth stupid thing was making Circe a sympathetic character.
In the poem the crew does nothing to slight her and don't even know it's her island, she just captures and mutates them because that's what witches do.
Also, Scylla and Charybdis were never a choice between two equally bad things.
Scylla is arguably the worst choice but the correct one because she doesn't eat the whole ship and crew.
The fifth stupid thing was replacing the Phaeceans with Calypso, not only does it make Oddyseus look like a dummy AGAIN but whether or not Calypso believes him or not is completely irrelevant because she doesn't answer to Poseidon like the Phaeceans do.
The sixth and absolute WORST thing they did was shoehorn Tolkien's ending for the LOTR series.
WHY SPEND 10 YEARS TRYING TO GET HOME IF YOUR JUST GOING TO GIVE ITHACA TO SOMEBODY ELSE AND LEAVE????
This change completely undermines and subverts EVERYTHING the poem is about.
NOLAN, WARNER BROTHERS AND ALL HIS SMOOTHBRAINED FANS CAN GET BENT.
