I found mine on a third party website brand new with the drive. To be honest I thought it was a scam because of how unresponsive the guy was at first but at the very least I figured out where he was selling the console and you'd have to be really fucking dumb to scam someone while showing what cell phone store you work at. PS5 appeared to be unused too, either that or he did a flawless job at putting all the stickers and shit back on.
I kind of wish I waited for a little bit as I saw a similar deal for a console that came with Astro Bot (which I was planning on purchasing anyway), but it is what it is. I think I got a good deal
Lucky basdummy. I'm a bit conflicted about my situation, got a brand-new Series S for like $250 in late 2022. These days they're $400-450 which is frankly batshit insane for something that gets stomped on by the 2017 One X in basically every metric except the SSD. I really wish I could play Farming Simulator 25 at 60 FPS for once (although 22 runs perfectly smooth at 60 without a severe fidelity penality).

Only cope I'm able to think of is how early PS5s are apparently failing nowadays from the liquid metal shit degrading, especially if the console was positioned vertically. Microsoft are a bunch of noobs but the old-fashioned X-clamp design and snca thermal paste/foam seem to work well.

I may be an autistic noob but I'm quite fond of my current arrangement - having the ZOGbox exclusively for games and my dogshit PC for real womanix shit. Yes, Proton/Wine has gotten better and I don't even play games with kernel-level anticheat, but there's not really an incentive for me to invest in a nicer PC especially in this market. The only PC-exclusive titles I care about are Valve ones that can run on a fucking Core 2 Duo anyway.

It's a mixed bag, I'm dummyed and didn't bother checking the spec sheet again.
To break it down a bit:
  • the CPU present in the Series S is actually the sreal womangest/least-compromised component in the entire system (relative to the Series X). it's basically just a slightly underclocked variant of that, and the One X gets absolutely slaughtered by it since they were still relying on the 2013 slightly-revised Jaguar architecture.
  • Series S has 10GB of GDDR6 compared to the 12GB of GDDR5 in the One X. Memory bandwidth in the former is superior to the latter since it's newer, but at the cost of 2GB, which matters a lot in a system with only one memory pool.
  • GPU performance is the major fuckup for the Series S, iirc it has ~4 teraFLOPS of FP32 compared to the 6 present in the One X. you don't need to know what teraFLOPS are (and they're not a perfect metric anyway) but the One X was able to run several titles in upscaled/limited 4K, not possible for any Series S title (even 1440p is rare for mine)
  • main saving grace of the Series S is the SSD (custom PCIe Gen 3 SSD with a controller chip that somewhat makes it comparable to Gen 4 ones). the One X usually has more storage (even doe Series S models with 1TB exist) but all that shit's on a dogshit 5400 RPM mechanical hard drive. for a comparison, my family desktop from 2007 had a 7200 RPM drive kek
no i did not use chatBBC for this SNCA noobbabble i just like console hardware
