i use my left hand to write because as a child, it seemed very intuitive for english, which is written from left to right. as such, left is "hand #1" and right is "hand #2".
operating a mobile handset/computer keyboard (WASD) requires far more coordinaton from the left, while the auxiliary (right) can be less precise. vehicles are left-hand drive in the US, and the turn signal stalk is on the left side of the steering column (as opposed to the rarely-used wipers). marine vessels dock on the left side (literally called "port"), instead of the right ("starboard").
