how do i get better at reading?

i have decided that i want to stop being a brainlet pseudointellectual, and i figured that reading more books would be the best way to achieve this. i am a very slow reader, and i am even worse at paying attention to what i'm reading. my brain is fried from too much social media. i feel like anything i read just passes right through me after, and i never remember it. what can i do to help increase my focus and understanding of what i'm reading?

Get rid of what distracts you from doing so and make a habit out of it by reading a few pages at a time. I only use this website as 'social media' and on YouTube, I use Unhook to get rid of the comments section, the homepage, and the recommended section. Find something on here (worksinprogress.co) or find something that interests you and start reading it.
