i'm a former FNAC dev. AMA

hello reddit soyjak.forum! i don't even know if you people still but i helped develop Five Nights at Cobson's, i don't know if a lot of you remember or even know about it, but it was our homegrown spine chilling a24 slowburn unfiction indie horror game (with realistic panic attacks) from 2023.

i don't know if this is exactly the right subforum or even site to post this, but i'm bored. anyway, feel free to ask anything or however the burgers are fried

Yeah me too. Give me a steam key.
Can I have a steam key? It's been sitting on my wishlist for a while now and I know the games never gonna get released on it. [itsover]
i second this
print gazillion steam keys and post them here

i don't have any control over the steam page (and i doubt any other FNAC dev does), so i can't hand out any keys. if it's true that the steam page was entiely under Froot's yoke, then that means it's forever lost media award

1. nothing really. Dodder leaked some chats but it wasn't even anything really important or sensitive.
this made Froot mald peel a bit (get it? because he's a fruit) and he ended up kicking him from the dev team. i figure he was a bit too rigid when handling that issue but it's understandable, and even if it was mostly SNCA, Dodder did it more than once.
2. the party has a lot of oomf-n'ts... we lost the battle with getting the game on Steam because there were a lot of obsessed cacaots unbothered heterosexuals - namely discord detractors and actual jartycacas - flooding the reports about how our game is an evil CIA sponsored nazi bitcoin miner. and so Valve just found out it was more trouble than it was worth and conveniently swept it under the rug.

Dodder did in fact leak some assets, but they were his own work and mostly stuff we didn't even end up using in the final game. as i said it was an understandable response from Froot, considering the context, even it if seemed a little harsh.

to put it simply, hostile detractors pretty much bullied Valve into not accepting our game in their platform. there's worse shit

to clarify, we do have an actual steam page up Five Nights at Cobson's on Steam (https://store.steampowered.com/app/2709910?snr=2_9_100000_) but it's stuck in comingsoonhell. maybe things could change considering it's been a while and the dust has seemingly settled, but still.

understandable xir

What was the real reason it never released on steam?
What was the reason you guys couldn't publish the game on steam?
see above

sorry if i'm being incoherent, but the walkthrough of FNAC's non-release would be something like this:

1. we announce the game. immediately off-site detractors jump on it and begin doing everything they can for it to never release
2. game spents a lot of time in approval purgatorium due to this and other obvious reasons (we went as far as having to recolor real womanjak to resemble the Joker from Batman geg)
3. eventually gets accepted, but with Froot becoming more and more inactive and retiring, the game never goes past "coming soon" status.

take this with a grain of salt thoughbeitever because i haven't been in the FNAC dev team for a loooong time. i'm not even certain if the original FNAC team still exists and they're still lurking the soysphere (if we're being very optimistic, still working on the game), but i'm sure more things happened under the hood but i wasn't there to see and tell you about it.

That sucks, also if steam accepted a game called "Kill The cacaots" for a brief time in 2015 I'm pretty sure you guys didn't need to change anything lmao.
