I liked the show as a kid due to the story, characters, designs and setting and that largely remains the same now. I got snagged on the initial fandom wave as I was allowed to freely roam online as a bab so the concept of liking the show was never really alien to me. All the other generations aside G4 suck shit because they are either glorified toy commercials or written by uninspired hacks. This is largely unlike early G4 which was largely done at the experienced pen of Lauren Faust, who actually gave a damn about her work and the resulting fandom around it to the point of tripcacaing on /mlp/ a few times in 2013. Cute designs ala moe chow and a fandom akin to Touhou in the sense that most of the blank-slate background mares got fandom-based names and personalities - mostly coined on /mlp/ - that later bled back into the show and led to explosive levels of fan-works. I could yammer on and on but I'd be wasting my time.
