My grandpa live in a really poor family so he was partaking on jobs from the young age. At the age of 14 he was working as a pickled vegetable. He would dive in into a pickle brine and spin around inside of it like pickle do for the amusement of wealthy lords that tossed coins into a big jar that he was performing this in. But this lasted for only two years since lords got bored from it and moved on. So being already a trained artisan of performance he came up with a new trick to amuse the wealthy. He became a century egg. His younger brother of the age of 4 would dress up as a jester and help him in this endeavour. To see the burial ceremony the rich would pay a fee to see him getting prepared as a regular century egg do, after which he's burried in the ground, and after some time, he promised that he would be dug up as an old man. Lords didn't belived him but still payed to see the process and the result. After a while, the lords all gathered in the same place again to see him being dug up. Will he actually become an old man? And to their suprise, when they uncovered the soil there was an old man laying in there instead of a young boy. They all started clapping, some would whistle, but others were just standing with open mouths. To add to their surprise, the skin of the old man was dark green color, exactly like century egg. In reality the trick here was simple, they just asked their uncle Bao to help and painted him with a natural dark green dye. They got a lot of money from this event so my grandpa build a house and small garden in the outskirts of town for this money. Unfortunately, after a while uncle Bao revealed a secret to one of the lords while being drunk, so they came to my grandpa and cut all his limbs off and a head too. But he already managed to have 2 kids so from there his wife (my grandma) would take on a duty to provide for them. Her new job was to be a wild strawberry.
