Upon researching this, it comes from a genetic mutation which occured relatively recently among populations which were pastoral and had cows which were good for milking, which makes sense why it is concentrated in northern Europe, despite sharing paternal genes with all indo-europeans. That's because it has nothing to do with european genetics. It's a new thing which evolved maybe 5000 years ago whereas the indo Europeans came along a few thousand before then. That's why places like India, Iran, central Asia are also lactose intolerant despite sharing over 30% of genes and also having pastoralists who raise cows. Those cows that live in hot conditions are terrible for milking.

I feel like this map is shit. As a personal anecdote, the only person in my vantablack brownoid shitskin charcoal colored central Iranian extended family who is lactose intolerant is my mother. Nobody else has this problem. None of my aunts or uncles or cousins or grandparents.
