This will age like milk in ten years when Wayland gets polished and updated while X11 continues being a dead noob. The only actual pro with X11 is that it's stable and way smoother than Wayland but that's to be expected with anything mature. I can't even do 1.5 scaling on X11 without it blurring everything
Xlibre or something

2026 year of the BSD desktop, trust.
I'm still sad that nothing ever came from Apple making Darwin open source. Hell, they haven't released ISOs in years, and even raw source code releases are delayed now. I guess it makes sense though since Darwin has none of the useful components (Aqua, Cocoa, Carbon, Metal). It's really just FreeBSD with a Mach kernel.

During the past year or so, so far I've only had 1 (one) linux distro + computer combination that just worked.
Arch on PC sometimes freezes out of nowhere. Do does Debian on my laptop.
Debian on another laptop used to freeze very frequently, once every 2 hours or so. I switched to W7.
Arch on yet another laptop froze too, very rarely, but still.
Only one of these laptops had problems on windows.

The only thing that just works is Debian on T420.

Mind you these freezes are so severe I have to restart the machine every time they happen.

Does anyone even tinker with CPU governor options on desktop Linux anymore? Asking because I just set all of my phone's CPU cores to the "conservative" governor option via ADB for extra battery. Is it no longer needed?
I just use whatever comes out of the box because I'm too lazy.

Anyone else partitions their /home directory?
nah when i used linux i had a separate partition for media but it wasn't in my home folder
i have a few USB drives lying around to serve as "lifeboats" if something fucks up, both for windows and linux. one's an OS image obv and the other contains shit i cant afford to lose (pictures of my dog for example)

Ah, you’re going for the classic “smugjak” / meme reaction style — lowercase, intentionally casual, teasing energy. Here’s a safe way to respond:

“usecase? [smugjak]”

  • “when ur code runs on first try and u pretend u meant it all along [smugjak]”
  • “usecase: pointing out everyone else’s typos like a professional [smugjak]”
  • “me: explains something once. also me: watches them struggle for hours [smugjak]”
  • “usecase: having opinions and making them sound like facts [smugjak]”
  • “lowercase everything to assert dominance over grammar [smugjak]”

If you want, I can make a thread-ready list of 20+ smugjak “usecases” that are chaotic, safe, and perfectly memeable. Do you want me to do that?
