June 19th, 2026: Juneteenth today. I woke up at 6:30am and got dressed in my other blue and white plaid button-down, black dress pants, a belt, and my vinyl jacket. I had the severe misfortune of opening up a woman’s close friends story and seeing her brag about getting period blood on the carpet. I walked at 7:30am all the way to the church to see Cliffe and Pete together so I sat with them. Gina and Nikki were also there and we participated in the African-American rite of the Catholic Church (AKA going to a Black Baptist church but without incurring sin). The Auxiliary Bishop I met was leading and he talked about growing up at this church, with his parents even meeting here when they were in the 3rd grade, he talked about the sanctuary not extending as far as it does now and the pews going up much closer. The Auxiliary Bishop would always sit in the front as he was the shortest student at the time, his sister lived nearby at a covenant, and he was a priest for over 40 years. We received the Body and Blood for the Eucharist today unusually instead of just the Body of Christ. We stood in prayer and then were dismissed, I got to the cafeteria attached to the church and waited behind a Black woman to get coffee. I didn’t say anything but the bald Black lady in charge of the drinks and glazed donuts joked.
“I remember your momma used to call him the silent speaker.”
I never knew her but it’s a funny joke. I ate my donut with Gina and Nikki before washing my hands to join Cliffe and Pete for evangelizing on a whim. There was another woman who joined us whom I will be calling Hideg. She talked with me and told me she is a photographer who worked with Cliffe before. We talked a bit before eventually reaching the parade and then waiting a while. In the parade was lots of Black men showing off their fancy new cars, with one “oldhead” –as Black people would call them– was riding a much older fancy car with the nearly white tires, I admired his class. Each of us got 4 sharpies to distribute to people there so they could write down on the cross what sins they wanted to be set free from, or have been set free from. We first managed to get a few people to write what they wanted and I actually wrote something down on the cross myself:
>Freedom from secular decay
>(6/19/2026)
We went down the street from where we started to get many Black people to write what they wanted freedom from on the cross. I held the cross for most of the time until Cliffe took over, I usually kept it still while people wrote on it. A few times we encountered Baptists who said that they had already been set free from sin, which I just knew was false theology that leads people into blatant sin without examination of conscience. We made our way through and encountered a liberal guy who was quite an asshole to us, further on we stopped in front of the Republican party tent, which was a bit away from the Democrat party, one of the Republican guys pointed to the Democrat tent and told us:
“Why not evangelize over there. They support abortion!”
I laughed, we didn’t go over there. But while walking back north, this Black lady with PBS shouted at us:
“You shouldn’t be doing that!”
Which we ignored. Another woman recognized me from my previous work and was super proud of my contributions to helping immigration, I asked her if she wanted to write a sin she wanted to be free from and then said:
“Sorry! I’m Jewish.”
I was disgusted with her but it’s kinda funny that she supports that. Hideg complimented me on my fashion and stated that it’s such an interesting choice to evangelize with style. We encountered this non-denominational church booth playing Christian rap and they were friendly with us. Another person encountered was this Pentecostal guy with a blue fancy suit, a fancy gold small star of David necklace, and a chain that said boss, Cliffe and the Pentecostal guy got into a debate on moral relativism versus the Catholic church being the one true church. They agreed to disagree and we went on our ways. There was another Black kid named Cam’ron A who wrote quite a lot and then read the bible with Cliffe. He wrote a lot and then added at the bottom Romans 12:2:
☛2 Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect.
At 11:34am. Sobieski joined us to evangelize. Hideg commented that he was from Poland which I didn’t know from his perfect accent, maybe he came here super young. But he had to lock up his bike. I proceeded to do my task of occasionally giving out my sharpie for them to use and passing out pamphlets for them to use. Another problem guy was a Black guy mad about slavery and how the Bible condoned slavery, (even though the Abolitionist movement of the 19th century was led by Christians) and how the world was worse off 1000 ago “because of Christianity” (even though the world was way worse off under paganism 2000 years ago) and when confronted about the verse about slaves obeying their masters. Cliffe said that he should. I didn’t add that the master should have also treated their slaves justly. I didn’t go well and he left. I talked with Hideg a bit more and we talked about both going to the same college, her for filmography, she’s from Madison, Wisconsin and she moved around a lot after college until moving back here. She asked me if I knew professor Tang and I said yes. She said he was very interesting, always taking the bus, using only a pushmower, and even going to this Refomed church with his wife a bit south of where I live. We walked a bit north when I got separated from them, I think I saw the Logan I don’t like so I went to talk at his booth but it was someone else. I made my way back to the cross they had and said I’d be heading back home at 12:45pm.
