>Link searching for Navi is about more than finding a friend. Navi is the only one other than himself that remembers everything he did. Without her, there is no one who knows what happened, which makes Link feel like his efforts in ocarina of time mean nothing so he endlessly searches for her. He’s searching for meaning. Link’s quest in Termina puts Link through pretty much the same thing that happened in ocarina of time: having go back in time and erase everything he did to help, but repeatedly. Link is forced into accepting no one will ever recognize his effort and he can’t help everyone, if he doesn’t the world will literally end. One of Majora’s mask’s main themes is acceptance (what the song of healing does is allow spirits to accept their situation and pass on to the afterlife) so it’s fitting that in this game Link must accept his situation himself to save the world. From the length of this comment you can probably tell just how much I love the work of art Majora’s Mask is.
