/ros/ - ReactOS General

General thread
What's the point of using it, it's even more obscure then FreeBSD
FOSS OS with all of the benefits of legacy Windows. If it works as intended, it would effectively make legacy Windows obsolete and allow older machines to keep on trucking. It’s a neat and hypothetically practical novelty all in all.

But enough about launch-day windows xp

I don't think I would. Even if it were 100% stable, I'd much rather have the technology from it worked into a compatibility layer on Linux or BSD. Wine and Proton are getting there, but it's still nowhere near as seamless and integrated as it could be.

When Microsoft tried doing this the other way around (WSL1, basically translating Linux system calls into NT ones) it was a mess. WSL2 is just a virtual machine, and that's disappointing.

Nobody cares put on space station 13 and jack off

Kick-ass. Everything works perfectly except network and audio but I can probably fix that by burning some drivers onto a DVD, which works out of the box might I add! I'm impressed.
