Should people in the past be held in the same standards as now ?

In what way? Morally? People back in the day (pick a year that's most convenient to the cause) were deemed more 'le heckin' racist', but they weren't mutilating kid's genitalia. On the same token; lobotomies. But, again, they weren't administering irreversible hormones to teenagers who are already hormonal as is.
So I would say the standards of the past were better than the ones put into place nowadays.

At least noobs in the past were ignorant to a lot of the evils they did.

We should glean the best traits and ideas from our predecessors and disregard their misdeeds as mistakes or defamatory lies.
