To clarify, I don't think he's the latter; I think he's closer to the former, which is unfortunate, because desensitization to heavy-handed topics is becoming increasingly more common. Likely due to prolonged internet use and echo chambers reinforcing that it's alright to talk about such things in a careless manner.

And not to make this about a personal agenda or something similar, but I think this is what leads to people like Tyler Robinson, as their reality is shaped by a virtual world and words on a screen, not actual reality. The guy started out with a conservative Christian family; he eventually gained access to the internet one way or another and ended up as a sexually depraved, furry cacaot with a real woman boyfriend. This shit both ruins people and gives ruined people power.
