It means only 70% of that awful view count are actual new viewers.

Yeah and 70% isn't a bad number. It's not amazing but it is healthy. Meanwhile views being 1% of subscriber count is absolutely abysmal. That's why I think it's so weird.

It's an awful number because the sample it's been taken from is awful itself. Think about it like this, if my video has 2 views and a single one of them is a subscriber, it's a 50/50 split between subscribers and new viewers which looks good on paper, but is taken from an actual dogshit sample so it's actually meaningless. The only real takeaway from this is that he has a few very loyal subscribers and every other subscriber doesn't care.

Generally youtube doesn't push videos your subscribers don't watch to new viewers which is why I thought it was weird. Normally a person with like 0.5% of subscribers being loyal wouldn't have their videos recommended to new people and would have a very high rate of subscribed viewers. It is possible that the few people watching have high retention doe so maybe that's why youtube thinks it's worth recommending? Either way the views are complete shit and his channel is dead.
