Obviously you've probably seen the updates in the meantime, but it looks like he managed to hit her a few times, but only minorly injured her hand and no one else. It was a firecracker he had and he's facing explosive charges as well as assault, tried as a minor. Absolute maximum of 17 years from what I gathered, the assault could be diverted to a whipping instead of jail, or a fine (which, his family probably won't pay lol)

As far as third world countries go Malaysia isn’t even that bad, it’s no Singapore but I’d rather live there than in like Indonesia or India or some miscellaneous South American hellhole
