Top Tier Character Designs

I really like the concept art and designs for the film Paranorman, and a favorite composer of mine composed the soundtrack as well, so that's a bonus. If I recall, one of the concept artists for that film and the subsequent film after was involved in the early pilot for the animated sitcom, "Gumball". He's got some nice art, distinctive art style.

Speaking of top tier character designers; Robert Valley. This guy is a fucking legend, he's worked closed with Titmouse and was a character designer & animator on one of their shows, MotorCity, and several other projects like Agent Elvis. Short-lived but great to look at it. He also helped out with the animation on various Gorillaz music videos in the mid '00s. He's a master at skewed perspective work and everything he touches turns to gold. His art is everything I wanted to do when I was a lad.

I haven't actually watched any of his stuff yet, but what are your thoughts on Peter Chung?

Me neither, but I know of The Animatrix and heard of him through Robert Valley. Peter is top tier too, the characters don't look anime, but the designs themselves have that kind of influence, whether it be the hair, the attire, or whatever else. I like his occasionally muted color palette and I really like the way he draws characters. It's like a hybrid between a comic book style and a semi-realistic look. It almost reminds me of a more dynamic, albeit realistic version of Batman: The Animated Series. I also feel like they were attempting to replicate his look somewhat in Pearl Jam's "Do The Evolution" music video, which is funny because two of the guys who worked on that show happened to direct the music video.
His stuff also reminds me of the animated segments from the Star Wars Holiday Special.

>Make the sleekest Sonic character since Sonic himself.
>Make him absolutely busted in-lore, capable of chaos control and telekinesis.
>Give him a backstory unlike any other character and let it show through his personality.
>Socially-underdeveloped desperate optimistic with a heart of gold trying to save the future whilst battling with the inner-conflict of killing another individual for a better future.
>Literally Trunks but cooler.

>One of the mentally-ill writers on the comic convinces herself that Silver made her asexual.
>Proceeds to completely change his entire character in the comics to fit her head-canon, a head-canon where he's a limp-wristed, shy cacaot who respects women and loses to mere egg-pawns.
>This character assassination starts leaking into all the other English media.
>The new "fans" brought in from that same comic will now sperg out if you even mention that you prefer his actual character.

God dammit.

All the characters from the Phoenician scheme are pure fucking Kino. I honestly dislike the tone of his post Fantastic Mr.Fox movies as i think his characters are too grandiose and out of touch while earlier movies like Rushmore or the Royal tenembaums we're more relatable. However despite this movie being the most grandiose extravagant of his movies, he went so stupidly unrealistic that it hit the same spot as you get from reading Tintin, absolute perfect gem 11/10.

I'm on the fence about the film, it's very fucked up but it's also a contemporary take on New York back in 1973, the same thing Downtown tried to do in 1999. So of course there's going to be weirdos, homosexuals, drugged up crazy junkies, mafia people, old perverts, etc. I admire Ralph Bakshi's character designs.
Hey Good Lookin' is a bit more appealing and a bit more refined. [Pictured below]

Also, did you know Mark Hamill's first role in film and in voice acting was in another Bakshi film? Wizards from 1977.

I'm only aware of his work on the Fritz the Cat film adaptation, is his other work worth the watch? Certainty looks interesting.

Definitely. Heavy Traffic is one hell of a trip, Hey Good Lookin' shares a lot of the same techniques as Heavy Traffic with more of an emphasis on live action sequences, but it's also alright. It's somewhat a nostalgia-bait throwback thing given that it was released in the early '80s, so it's a film that emulates the '50s.
