I wasn't there before 2016 but from my experience using the site and everything i've been told, gamergate was what truly fucked the site. The 2016 election era was a symptom of gamergate radicalizing the userbase. After that it wasn't any moment in particular that fucked the site, just the general apathy from hiro and his jannies that led to the site deteriotating in quality.

I also don't blame the newcaca for it, but instead internet culture as a whole changing after gamergate. Everyone even the oldcaca changed. This is also happening on the sharty btw.
