As far as semi hard cheeses go, not really. It's pretty smooth. I think it's great on toast, but a bit too mild for other bread.

Yeah edamer is pretty much only good melted. Never been much of a fan of gouda personally. I prefer swedish cheeses like greve and munkens svarta which I don't believe are available at all in any other country cold. They have a sreal womanger taste. Also probably because I grew up with them. If you try them as an adult I wouldn't be surprised if you think there's a reason they didn't make it out of the country.
