Yesterday was pretty eventful. I had two events to go to after work. The first one was a farewell party for my former skip manager. Despite being my skip, he was arguably more involved with my old work than my manager was. As for why he’s “pursuing other opportunities”, it seems it’s not out of his own volition. Makes sense, he’s been with the company for 25 years and he didn’t seem like he was ready to retire or leave anytime soon. Unfortunately I think my company just wanted to cut costs and replace his salary one from… you guessed it, overseas. Even though the entire team is basically here in the states where I’m located. That’s the cruel nature of the corporate world, I guess. I just wish it was someone else, he might’ve been a pain in the ass at times but he was always dedicated to the work, he adapted to whatever initiatives the company did and was generally very knowledgeable. Their loss I guess.
Anyways we stopped by this huge sports bar nearby. The place wasn’t new to me, I went there once around Thanksgiving to meet up with some friends. We all had some drinks and shared some sides. I particularly liked the fried pickles and the cheese curds, the cheese curds were slept on for half the time and the fried pickles were only really enjoyed by me. We talked about general shit mainly, my skip gave a rant about how important financial literacy is and knowing the business you’re working in, and we also talked about how AP exams are a scam and you can basically get the same experience by doing college courses from a local CC while going to school (I did this for English, fuck AP Lit). We also talked about web filters. This was the first time I’ve ever heard about ANYONE setting up computer and social media limits. Then again, I grew up in quite the opposite environment, I was given a MacBook when I was seven and had an email account since I was four. Admittedly, the way I turned out is probably good reason for why you should limit your kids’ computer usage. My manager talked about how he’s been wrestling with his daughter in high school over opening an Instagram account, and begging for extra Snapchat time to open her friend’s stories. The other analyst and my former primary coworker also talked about this and how he just reset his MAC Address to get over his parents web filters. On the other hand, another guy I worked with said he basically let his kid do whatever and that “if he didn’t know something he should Google it”. You’d think this would be a recipe for disaster but he’s working on his PhD at age 19, so I guess not. Best I could relate to was the pain in the ass filters on the school Chromebooks. Kids these days are so fucking pampered man, they can play Half-Life 2 and GTA Vice City and Monkey Ball in class while having a LLM do their work. At best all I’ve got was Tanki Online, the games we could access were all Helmet Heroes and Run 2 tier.
After a certain point I dipped and walked to my next destination, which was a golf simulator social hour for my cohort and the next. I barely saw anyone from my cohort there, to be honest. My oneitis and her fiancé said they were pulling up, but they flaked as per usual. For the most part I chatted with this guy I sort of knew on a couch. Just general small talk stuff, really, nothing special. With that being said I wish I hung out with him more, he’s a pretty chill dude but unfortunately he doesn’t really run in the same circles as me so I don’t get many opportunities to meet up. They were throwing out drink tickets like fucking candy there. Everyone got one at the entrance, but they were handing more out. I got three, and I’m pretty sure if I asked for more they might’ve obliged. So on top of my tall glass of Blue Moon I had two Michelobs, making me pretty intoxicated by the time I got home. My eyes even went bloodshot for a bit at home, which was kind of freaky. Everything mostly cleared up by morning, after a tea and lunch I’m feeling pretty normal.
I also talked with this other guy I’m friends with for a bit as well as a few foids he was around. We talked about her getting engaged, I didn’t mention any of the gay shit I vent out here but I did mention remembering her having a different boyfriend and I was happy for her and such and such. We then talked about cars for a bit. He got a preowned BMW 330i that he’s pretty happy with, this led into a conversation about how badly BMW fell off recently, and to a lesser extent the other German brands. He mentioned wanting an RS7, I told him I was more partial to the RS3 because muh five cylinder and what not, this led into a conversation about the hatchbacks you can get in Europe but not here. He also introduced me to two people he knew and tried hyping me up, which I appreciated but idk I’m kind of a dummy tbh.
Oh and he invited me to a party this Friday. TBH I thought nothing would come out of this as people always vaguely promise shit and never follow through but I got an actual invitation through Partiful this morning. I’d normally be pretty excited for this but honestly I’m a bit on the fence about going. I only know a couple people who were invited and I’m generally pretty bad with new people. This could end up okay or with me being molested (figuratively). Also there’s some things I really want to work on and I don’t want to spend my weekend hungover and/or tired. I guess I could just drink less than usual or leave early, my parents keep whining that I drink too much but they’re being a bunch of bitches IMO. On the other hand going will help get my dad off my ass a bit regarding my social life even though his ideas are dummyed and half the time I think he’s just saying it because he likes to pester and nag people in general.
