I stuck to the nicer parts, but we'd park by rundown apartments (cheaper) and I've seen plenty of hookers and junkies.
When I went there on the 4th, I could actually hear reports of shots being fired pretty much any time I was near a cop, and obviously I've also heard far off shots.
Never been mugged or anything though.
