This is an anecdote I previously wrote in another thread about a personal friend of mine before I realized "well, this isn't really on-topic for that thread, anyway," as it turned out that I had a lot more to write than I thought, so I'll post it here, instead, to not toss the writing away.
There is
one guy I know IRL who I
have been hanging out with very often these past few weeks because he's almost always free to hang out with unlike a lot of my other dear friends, but that's really because he's what I'll call a
local businessman who deals in substances of a psychoactive nature (he is still formally employed as well but his hours there are quite lax), and while he's actually very pleasant to talk to and box outside with whenever the weather's nice (been a little rainy recently), I also prefer not to accompany him during his business hours very often because there always ends up being
some feller I knew from school who'll turn up to buy a weed vape from him only to see
me and look all "huh" after catching sight of me chilling in the car, so on nights like this where he's dilly-dally-dealing, I tend to stay home rather than tag along with him just because I'd rather not have a rumor spread around that's like:
>yo wagwan mi brudda, yuh knoe dat boy baqqrih be in de business wit dat yung dope pusha, yuh hear bout dat?
>Ah, so that's what he's doing after graduation, and already, man. I always knew he'd get wrapped up in the wrong crowd. What a shame, another one of our brightest youth lost to drugs. And... actually... it's giving me the ick.
I mean, only minorities should be selling drugs, so honestly, it's cultural appropriation if he is doing it too.
Like, folk would probably believe that about me, so it's better to avoid being present at such dealings to avoid that, I would think. Still, I appreciate the company of that substance-slinging amigo (he's Mexican), so on nights like the past few where he's stagnant in his little apartment eating dinner with his girl, I like to spend my evenings there just kicking back for a bit, enjoying some good food when it's offered, and talking of recent happenings with my pal. The man's an excellent storyteller.
