/Christ/ - Christianity General

General thread
Due to recent local events I've gained the slightest interest in Christianity again after long discarding it upon leaving my Catholic primary school. I've listened to the KJV version of Mark, Matthew and John recently at work yet I've retained absolutely nothing beyond certain analogies and key-events due to distraction. In spite of my interest only rekindling recently, I have owned a physical copy of the NIVUK translation for a hot minute so reading it physically with full attention isn't off the table. I want to give Christianity an honest shot after years of dismissal but I don't know where to start beyond the most popular New Testament books. Any pointers?

Don't.

Elaborate. Atheism is revolting and Paganism is a larp. I've done the most glossary research into Irish Paganism and there's no solid sources on anything beyond mere external accounts from curious onlookers.

The Geneva and KJV versions can be a tough read for ESLs, maybe you should look at the NLT.
It's easier to understand the modern day application of what you're reading if you don't have to stop and check definitions for archaic words every minute.

Har har.

Just checked Wikipedia, from what I can tell it's a faithful and clear version. What separates it from the NIV?
Worshipping a Jewish street magician is pretty cringe doey.
Reviving Lazarus seemed like an act beyond magic to me. All of his acts and miracles boast multiple written sources from multiple unrelated authors with no shared intentions. That adds (what I would personally consider) a pretty sreal womang validity to them all, a validity that makes "magician" seem almost misleading.

I'm not sure, never read NIV.
I haven't heard of any serious problems with either, I don't doubt it's a sound translation. I've also learned you can't be afraid to use your own judgement to determine if something is true or not (or just a mistake)

Are you EFL? I wasn't throwing shade I just assumed.

1. try to read at least 1 chapter a day. if you can do more, that's better but you should really try to see how the holy spirit works within the texts and how it is able to lead you to a holy life.

2. go to church. no exceptions. you are cheating yourself and missing out on many beautiful things without going to the church. a community, the services, and the sacraments are very beautiful and you cannot live as a Christian without them.
Christianity is a communal religion and it is eventually a part of your life, not something you just do by yourself in your free time.
You need to get yourself moderation powers so you can poopnvke his profile with HIS account.
should i do this?
