It seems to be fine but requires more technical know-how to set it up. I use Posteo, it costs €1 per month and it just works. Keep in mind that activist email services like Autistici, RiseUp, and Disroot can disable your email account for any reason, Tutamail doesn't let you use any external mail client, and Protonmail doesn't have a good track record for privacy, basically a honeypot.

From what I can see on Dig Deeper, it is recommended however, when I requested an account I never got it sent. Disroot is the best privacy-wise if you just want to make an account and don't want invites and want le free. I've been using mailhaven but it's Cloudflared doe.
You don't even need to use an email for soybooru, just put "@" and write the password somewhere.
I tried using it, I don't know if I set it up right since their guide shows an outdated version of thunderbird and I don't know exactly how pgp keys work and I can't find out how aliases are added. Emails are sent but take long to receive, I assume because of their server, but that makes it hard to sign up for accounts on a sites that require a timed verification code.
